We were happy to have presented another great event in Central Florida where a diverse group of attendees were able to enjoy seven locally-produced short films and later interact with four of the filmmakers on stage in a lively Q&A segment.

Below you can find a taped archive of the workshop panel. The Workshop Panel was presented at Love Your Shorts Film Festival, Sanford, Florida Feb. 9, 2023. We hope you find it informative.

Filmmaker, Writer, Storyteller

When Dustin first saw Jurassic Park at the age of three, he knew he wanted to make movies. Armed with his Hot Wheels camcorder, he’d record scenes with his action figures and friends. Dustin studied Media Arts at the University of South Carolina with a focus on cinematography and writing. After graduating, he made the move down to Florida, where he is currently working with Living Frames, a commercial production company, while pursuing his passion for narrative filmmaking.

TRACEY JANE

Filmmaker, Writer, Director

TRACEY JANE found her way to films through her passion for storytelling. As Copy Director for Marriott Vacations Worldwide, Tracey leads a team of a dozen creative copywriters. As an award-winning playwright, her comedic short plays (together, QUICKIES by Tracey Jane) have been produced from Orlando, Miami, and LA to New York, London and, later this year, Paris. In 2022, Tracey was challenged to enter the magical world of movies. Thanks to her team of co-collaborators, her first two short films, Men Are Dogs and Build-a-Bob—which she wrote, directed, and produced—received 14 awards (28 total nominations), including Best Film each for comedy and sci-fi categories, respectively, by the Orlando Independent Filmmakers. A brand-new musical Tracey wrote (book, music, and lyrics), “A Halloween Carol,” gave a sold-out workshop performance at Orlando’s Renaissance Theatre in preparation for a full production this coming Halloween. She’s looking forward to the next Equal Play Production, co-written with Stephen Lewis: Love Eternal, a short comedy about mortality, inspiration, and love.

Chris Ballinger resides in Orlando for the past 25 years. Chris started as an actor but realized he loved being behind the camera; now, he’s an award-winning indie short filmmaker and screenwriter. His award-winning short film Little Z now turned into a series called Saving Little Z. Along with the pilot, he turned the series into a comic book. Chris continues to create plans with an audio drama podcast and two more short films coming out this year. He enjoys getting out, meeting people, and talking about his passion as a creator.

DALE METZ
Filmmaker, Producer, Director

Dale Metz has been a photo and film enthusiast for years though he began a more formal study of photography in 1998. In early 2010, upon retiring from a career in the
fire/EMS service, he developed a passion for film-making. The ability to use knowledge learned as a still photographer when creating a story through film has opened a new dimension of expression. He enjoys collaboration, project development and working with actors and crew.
Born and raised in Vero Beach, Florida, he received a Bachelor degree from Florida State and has studied photography through Seminole State College and various workshops.
His professional photographic experience includes wedding, portrait, fine art and commercial work. He has produced product advertisements and composite work for promotional publications. Dale’s short films have screened at festivals around the globe
and have received numerous recognitions.

Jason Gregory is a board member of the Organization of Independent Filmmakers and former President of Orlando Urban Film Festival as well as a current UCF Screenwriting Lecturer.
Jason will moderate the panel and host the audience’s Q&A sessions.

A Boston native and writer for more than 25 years, has written 8 novels, 6 feature films, over 20 short films, several poetry anthologies and 3 television pilots. Her production company, DAME Media is located in Central Florida. Lagos has a Bachelors of Science in Developmental Psychology from Suffolk University and an Associates in Creative Writing from NYU. She has written and directed for the Theatre for decades, most notably her time at South of Broadway Theatre in Charleston, SC where she was well known for her directorial debut of, “Power Play” which sold out every show.

OIF, in partnering with the Love Your Shorts Film Festival in Sanford, Florida will conduct Education Day at the festival. Education Day is the traditional opening night for the LYS Film Festival, previously conducted by the University of Central Florida.

The evening will showcase six short films produced by local filmmakers based in Central Florida. After the screening, four of these filmmakers will be on stage as panelists to present to the audience “how they got their start in filmmaking”. At the end of the panel presentations, there will be a dedicated Question and Answer session so that the audience may pose their questions to these filmmakers.

The evening promises to be entertaining as well as insightful. We’re looking forward to it!
